I bet that every Aion player that reached level 10 with the mage, wonders witch class to choose sorcerer or spiritmaster ? I will explain the main differences between this classes.
Both spiritmaster and sorcerer have high DPS but the main difference is that the sorcerer has direct damage mostly, while the spiritmaster have DOT (damage over time) spells as primary skills. When you play as a sorcerer you need to understand that you have insane nukes but extremely poor defense. You must kill fast or you will get killed.
The spiritmaster has the advantage of having elemental pets. The main strategy as spiritmaster is: you tank with your pet and cast your dots on the enemy. Then you try to disable the foe (ice, restraint) and cast nukes witch are not so powerful as the sorcerer nukes, or you run and cast dots again when they cooldown. Basically you need to survive until the dots kill your enemy.
I think in the PvP the sorcerer is more useful, but in PvE the spiritmaster tops the sorcerer because the mobs can be easily tanked with the pet. Both classes are poweful, the only thing that matters is your playstyle. If you like pure damage, chose sorcerer, if you like tactics and DOTS, then chose spiritmaster.
